He was an actor when he was young, playing small roles in movies like Do Anjaane (1976) and Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan (1978). Nevertheless, it was Surakksha (1979), a low-budget spy film, that brought Chakraborty to prominence. Chakraborty also saw Prem Vivah (1979), a film by Basu Chatterjee, in the late 1970s।
